The Emergency Management Office has issued high surf and small craft advisories this Friday and Saturday as hazardous surf on east facing shores are expected at the start of the weekend.

EMO, based on information received from the National Weather Service in Tiyan, Guam, said breezy trade winds are expected to produce large wind waves and swells today and tomorrow. The high surf and small craft advisories remain in effect until 5pm Saturday.

Due to rising seas in the region, EMO is advising the public—especially beachgoers, fishermen, tourists, swimmers, divers, and surfers—to avoid venturing near exposed reefs and beaches, especially along east facing reefs as rip currents are life threatening.

The public should expect hazardous surf of 10 to 12 feet along east facing exposures this weekend. (PR)
