Villagomez inks three proclamation events
In the jam-packed Governor’s Conference Room yesterday morning, acting Gov. Timothy P. Villagomez signed three proclamations.
With the room full of children and adults, Villagomez proclaimed March as Traumatic Brain Injury Awareness Month and Developmental Disability Awareness Month.
“Today, we recognize the prevalence and the dangers of traumatic brain injury in the United States and in our own Commonwealth. We highlight the importance of taking pro-active steps to avoid this type of injury, as well as helping those who have suffered this type of injury,” Villagomez said. “I am also very pleased to recognize the work, value and service provided by the CNMI Council on Developmental Disabilities. The DD Council constantly strives to be of service to those challenged by developmental disabilities, and I am proud to take this time to commend the council and recognize their important work for our community.”
Every 21 seconds someone in the U.S. will sustain a traumatic brain injury, which comes out to more than 4,000 people daily.
Villagomez also signed a proclamation designating the week of March 2 to 6 as CNMI School Counseling Week.
“Our school counselors are responsible for guiding our school students toward success in school and life,” he said. “School counselors do not merely help students, they develop our citizenry and contribute to our society’s welfare. They help guide young people away from unproductive and harmful behavior and into productive pursuits and careers.”
