Land lease woes between DPL, Neo Gold Wings ironed out
Sen. Jude U. Hofschneider yesterday said the Department of Public Lands and Neo Gold Wings Paradise have finally agreed on the conditions of a land lease deal involving 300 hectares of public land on Tinian for a casino/resort project worth $200 million to $500 million.
“This project will benefit the whole CNMI, not only Tinian,” said Hofschneider, chairman of the Senate Committee on Resources, Economic Development and Programs.
He said a joint session may be held Friday to consider the proposed public land lease deal between DPL and Neo Gold Wings Paradise.
A Feb. 25 scheduled joint session was postponed because the two parties still had to iron out differences, including DPL’s proposal to reduce the size of land to be leased out, from 300 hectares to only about 160 hectares, Hofschneider said.
Since then, the parties had been meeting with the Senate Committee on Resources, Economic Development and Programs and the House Committee on Natural Resources chaired by Rep. Ramon A. Tebuteb to come up with a proposal that’s agreeable to the parties.
“It’s still 300 hectares. The parties have agreed on the terms and conditions of the lease agreement,” Hofschneider said.
Neo Gold Wings Paradise is proposing to lease public land on Tinian’s Pina Area for the construction of a “six-star, 1,000-room mega hotel resort and casino.”
Two other investors are proposing to build casino and hotel resorts on Tinian, which so far has only one operating casino, the Tinian Dynasty Hotel and Casino.
