D-9ers’ Bansil, Falcons’ Sablan tied in batting
Robert Bansil of the D-9ers and B.J. Sablan of the Falcons are currently leading all players in batting percentage in the 2009 Budweiser Saipan Major League.
The 12 players who were included in the list of the batting leaders went to bat nine times or more as of March 16.
Bansil and Sablan averaged .555 after they hit 5-for-9 at bat.
John Acosta, also of the D-9ers, is in solo third with his average of .545 after recording a 6-for-11 performance at the plate.
Juan Iguel and Jess Iguel, both of the Ford Rangers, are in a three-way tie with Master Tigers’ Mike Muna. They all averaged .500 after going 6-for-12 at bat.
Dave Camacho Jr. is in seventh spot with his .466 average, followed by J.D. Dikito of the Falcons.
Jang Jin Hyuk of the Korean Phoenix and reigning MVP Tyron Omar are tied with a .454 at bat average (5-for-11).
Interestingly, so far no one from league-leading Rock Steady made it to the list of batting leaders.
The Rangers’ Pete Tomokane has the most doubles with three, while four players are tied with two apiece—Roy Celis, J.D. Dikito, Mike Muna, and Jess Mesa.
Reno Celis currently has the most triples with two, while Ben Taisacan of the Rangers is the lone player so far to record a homerun.
Taisacan is also the league leader in RBIs with six.
In runs scored, Juan Iguel and Dave Camacho are tied with seven, Jess Iguel and Bansil come next with six and five, respectively.
Vincent Sablan is the leader in strikeouts with 18, Mike Taitano and Thomas Joab have 13, while Jason Hayes (11), Paul Camacho (10), and Shane Yamada (10) make up the rest of the leaders.
Based on seven or more innings, Kelvin Kapileo is on top of the list in earned run average (ERA). Kapileo has a perfect 0.00 ERA in nine innings, followed by Yamada (0.00 in seven), Joab (0.77 in nine), Ed Santos (0.87 in eight), Hayes (0.87 in eight), and Sablan (1.00 in 14).
