Paradise lost
If Marpi is going to become a homestead area, Saipan will lose the most beautiful thing about it. Marpi is the pride and joy of Saipan. It is what makes Saipan stand out as a tourist destination. Marpi should remain untouched and not become a developed area. There are many other parts of Saipan that should be used for homesteads instead. Kagman has so many abandoned homesteads that could be used. Why not use Capital Hill and Talofofo? Marpi is the only place where people can truly get away from the rest of Saipan and go back to nature. There are indigenous trees, hilitai, and birds that will be harmed. It’s bad enough that Marpi is now home to our landfill. Marpi will lose its beauty if it gets developed over the years.
Kalabera Cave should not be developed as well. Kalabera should be left the way it has been for thousands of years. It is a very significant place for Chamorros. There are Taotaomona drawings there. As Chamorros, decendants of Taotaomonas, we should honor our ancestors and leave Kalabera the way it is. Use the CIP funding to fix our roads (Middle Road need center lanes, Kagman 3 and 4 need paving, Back Road needs fixing, etc.) instead of wasting it on developing Kalabera Cave. Biba Marianas! Fanoge Chamorro para i tanota!
