Three persons, including two minor students, were injured when a car slammed into the closed glass door of Dollar Days Wholesale in Garapan yesterday morning.

Department of Public Safety spokesperson Lei Ogumoro said preliminary information indicated that the victims were treated at the scene and later released.

Ogumoro said it was reported that a silver Toyota Corolla crashed through the front entrance of Dollar Days at 6:41am.

Ogumoro said at the time of the crash, two students at a nearby school bus were hit by flying debris and sustained minor injuries. She said an employee of Dollar Days also had minor injuries.

The DPS spokesperson said she should have more information about the crash today, Tuesday, as the police officer who investigated the case ended his shift at 7am yesterday.

Saipan Tribune, however, learned that it was actually a Toyota Camry and not a Corolla that rammed into the closed door of Dollar Days.

The car, driven by a woman, was about to park in front of Dollar Days to drop off her two children to wait for the school bus when the incident happened.

Instead of stepping on the brake, the woman reportedly stepped on the gas pedal. The car slammed into the padlocked door of Dollar Days.

The glass door was shattered as the car went inside the establishment and hit one of the racks.

The woman’s two children, who were wearing seatbelts, were not injured. Two teenaged students who were in front of the store were injured after they were hit by flying glass and other debris.

The driver’s husband later came and reversed the car from the store. Broken glass were scattered all over the floor of the establishment.

The car had minor damage on the left front hood.

Saipan Tribune was told that the driver works in a hotel that is also owned by the Dollar Days owner.

Police placed the incident under investigation.
