Rangers’ Iguel leads SML in batting

Outfielder Juan Iguel of the Ford Rangers is the current leader in the batting category of the 2009 Saipan Major League.

Iguel averaged .647 by hitting 11-for-17 at-bat as of March 30.

Another Ranger in the Top 10 is pitcher/infielder Dave Camacho, who is No. 5 with his .476 average after registering 10 hits in 21 at bats.

Two batters from the Tanapag Falcons, Mike Pangelinan and B.J. Sablan, are occupying the second and third positions. Both players went 9-for-15 for an average of .600.

Mike Muna of the Tigers is fourth with his .529 (9-for-17).

Three players from San Roque D-9ers are in the sixth, seventh, and eighth spots—Ben Mesa .473 (9-for-19), Jeff Tenorio .470 (8-for-19), and John Acosta .450 (9-for-20).

No. 9 J.D. Dikito, also of the Falcons, has a .450 clip after going 9-for-20.

Only one player from defending champion Rock Steady is included in the list as Toi Celis is No. 10 with his average of .444, after hitting eight in 18 times at-bat.

Iguel is also the leader in runs with 13. Camacho is in second place with nine and Pangelinan is third with eight.

Three players have so far hit a homerun. They are Ben Wachi Taisacan, B.J. Sablan, and J.D. Dikito.

Pete Tomokane of the Rangers has the most doubles with five. Roy Celis, Juan Iguel, and Mike Muna have three each.

Four players have so far tied with the most triples with two each—Reno Celis, Ben Mesa, Giovanni Ayuyu, and Dave Camacho.

B.J. Sablan tops the RBI department with nine, while Ben Mesa has eight. Juan Iguel, Jess Iguel, and J.D. Dikito have seven each.

Thomas Joab of the Falcons is the leaders in strikeouts with 23.

Mel Sakisat and Vincent Sablan of Rock Steady have 20 and 18, respectively, while Jason Hayes of the Tigers has 15.

Kelvin Kapileo, also of the Rangers, leads in ERA with a 0.00 average after not giving up a run in nine innings.

Shane Yamada of the Rangers also has 0.00 ERA after seven innings (1-0).

Vincent Sablan is in third with 1.00 ERA, 14 innings (2-0), Dung Tenorio of the Rangers is running fourth with a .140 ERA in 10 innings (2-0). Sakisat is fifth with his 2.62 ERA in 16 innings of work (1-0).
