18 complete Taga Kids Triathlon

Eighteen youth athletes had their share of 20th Tagaman Triathlon experience, as they completed the shortened version of the race Saturday at the American Memorial Park.

The 6 to 9 age group division of the 2009 Taga Kids Triathlon drew the most participants with 12, while the 10 to 12 division and 13 to 15 had three and two entries, respectively.

Kento Akimaru was the top finisher in the boys’ 6 to 9 division, timing in at 29 minutes and 16 seconds. The course for the 6 to 9 age group consisted of one lap each of the swim (about 50 meters at Micro Beach), bike, and run legs. Akimaru clocked in at 1:46 in the swim part and 11:20 and 16: 50 in the bike and run portions, respectively.

Logan Mister came in second with a total time of 32:07, followed by Luther Lizama (33:03) Steven Goodwin (35:50), Cole Chambers (36:13), Taiga Sato (37:29), Lennosuke Suzuki (39:47), Max Hawley (40:16), Rinto Takahashi (43:77), Eeshani Thomas (44:42), Ichiro Borja (48:59), and Akira Kadokura (1:03:53).

In the 10 to 12 age group, which required participants to complete two laps of each leg, three completed the race. Maxi Braig submitted a total time of 49:16, while Bryce Daly clocked in at 56:04. Gabrielle Race tallied 1:04:23.

Braig finished the two-lap swim leg in 2:31, timed in at 18:29 in the bike part and 28:16 in the run portion. Daly had 2:80 in the swim leg, 20:44 in the bike portion, and 37:40 in the run part. Race logged 3:54 in the swim portion, 28:19 in the big part, and 33:10 in the run leg.

There was a two-man race in the 13 to 15 age group with Nuradin Gutzwiller-Malakut outlasting Clay McCullough-Stearns.

Gutzwiller-Malakut completed the three-lap swim leg in 6:42, three-lap bike portion in 27:35, and three-lap run part in 41:18 for a total time of 1:15:36. He was more than four minutes ahead of McCullough-Stearns, who logged 1:19:19. McCullough-Stearns posted 6:46 in the swim part, 28:41 in the bike portion, and 44:32 in the run leg.

All finishers received medals, while the Top 3 winners in each age group were given trophies during the Tagaman awards ceremony Saturday night at the Pacific Islands Club.
