NMC Charter Day celebration is next Friday

Celebrating its 28th year of helping people further their education, the Northern Marianas College is inviting the community to its Charter Day festivities which will be held at the NMC Field on Friday, May 8, 2009, from 4pm to 11pm.

Headlining the event will be the highly-anticipated Marianas Idol Competition, which will feature some of the CNMI’s most talented singers competing for the title of 2009 Marianas Idol as well as prizes donated by the event’s sponsors.

Those who wish to participate in the competition must take part in the audition scheduled for Monday, May 4, at 5pm at the NMC Student Center. Five finalists will be selected from the audition to perform at the Charter Day Festivities on Friday, May 8.

Other competitions will include the NMC Charter Day Dance Crew Competition, the Battle of the Bands, and the Miss Pugua Beauty Pageant.

In addition to the exciting entertainment, there will also be several vendors featuring island delicacies and specialty drinks for sale. Confirmed booths include 3’s, Poons, Magie’s, Shirley’s Coffee Shop, Cherry, Champs, Mr. Smoothie, Java Joes, Lynn’s, Alliance, Sierra’s, the NMC Library Legendary Guild, the Chamorro Club, the NMC Spirit Squad, the NMC Bookstore, and the Upward Bound Program. Other booths will have games for kids.

The Northern Marianas College’s Recruitment Committee will also be hosting a booth at Charter Day; students interested in applying for admission for Fall 2009 may pick up an application and get their application fee and placement test fees waived.

Interested individuals may still register for booth space by Friday, May 1. Booth registration forms may be downloaded online at www.nmcnet.edu or picked up at the NMC Student Center in Building J.
