D-9ers escape Jets, Lion King on a roll
San Roque D-9ers snapped the Jets’ six-game winning run with a 2-1 win in their defense-oriented match-up in the Senior Division of the 2009 Saipan Little League last Saturday at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Ballfield.
With both teams’ playing solidly on the field, Henry Nakamura squeezed in the first run in the top of sixth and gave the Jets’ 1-0 lead.
D-9ers leading batter for the season, Eric Tenorio, singled and drove home Mart Sablan to tie the score.
Then in the bottom of the seventh, Clyde Sablan scored on a sacrifice fly to center by Branson Kladikim for the win.
Davenalt Jones struck out five batters he faced and allowed six hits and four walks in 7.1 innings for the D-9ers.
Joseph Palacios Jr. struck out seven batters and allowed only three hits and a walk in a losing effort for the Jets.
However, D-9ers failed to duplicate the win after dropping their next assignment on Sunday at the hands of the Lion King.
Kagman Lion King made it four in a row with their 11-8 win over D-9ers.
Shota Castro went 2-for-2 with a walk and two runs and Dominic Chargualaf had a 1-for-1, performance from the plate along with three runs, four walks, and a RBI single in the win.
Earlier the Lion King posted a hard-earned 12-8 victory in an eight-inning game over a relentless Ol’Aces team last Saturday.
With the Lion King just ahead by a run (8-7) after the top of seventh, Ol’Aces’ Tony Guerrero stole home in the bottom of the seventh to force the extra inning.
The Lion King made four runs in the top of eighth for win with Jack Muna leading the charge after going 2-of-5 and contributing a run and three RBIs. A.J. Hocog was 2-for-3, with four runs, two RBIs, and two walks.
Despite the loss, virtual pennant winner Jets is still way ahead from the rest of the pack with 14-2 record.
Second-running Fielders improved to 10-5 following an easy 14-6 win over Ol’Aces.
Ton Agulto went 4-for-5 with three runs and three RBIs and Peter Tenorio had a 3-for-5 performance with two runs and four RBIs.
