The Chris Nelson and Lucas Knecht-led team ruled the 2009 Pacific Islands Club 3 vs. 3 Soccer Tournament held over the weekend at PIC.

Nelson and Knecht, who are both members of the CNMI Men’s National Team, joined forces with Koichiro Nakamura and Marya Oestreich in beating the team of Steve McKagan, Rob Jordan, and Lindsey Sosovec.

Knecht, who suited up for the CNMI Nationals in the East Asian Football Championship 2010 Preliminary Competition in Guam in March this year, delivered for the winning team. He scored the winning goal in overtime to down McKagan’s squad, which was undefeated in the elimination round.

Knecht’s team pocketed $100 for their feat. Each member also received PIC Water Park pass plus brunch certificate for two, and an IT&E gift bag.

Each member of the runner-up team went home with PIC Water Park pass plus brunch certificate for one and $100 worth of free text from IT&E.

Dale Roberts and Greg Elliot teamed up with a PIC guest and finished third. They each won PIC Water Park pass for two and IT&E hats.

Twenty-three players participated in the weekend tournament, which was supported by PIC, Monster, Pepsi, Miller Lite, and IT&E.

The first day of the event had teams competing in a pool play, while the second day had a double elimination format.

Players were ranked “1” (advanced) “2” (intermediate), or “3” (beginner). Each team had one randomly drawn player from each category and only players in the 15-and-over age group were allowed to join the two-day event.
