13 matches to start action in DFS netfest
It will be a busy weekend for CNMI netters, as Northern Marianas Tennis Association begins the 2009 DFS Micronesian Tennis Championships this Friday at the American Memorial Park and Pacific Islands Club tennis courts.
This weekend’s DFS netfest will feature competitions in juniors singles and adults doubles. Twelve matches will be played in the junior singles today, while only one doubles game in the adults division is scheduled in the opening day.
The lone doubles game will have Mike Pascual and George Bartolata battling the duo of Jake Lee and Clay McCullough-Stearns in the men’s 3.0 division.
Five games will be played on Day 1 in the boys’ 14-and-under division, which has the most entries in the juniors singles with 20 players.
The boys’ 10-and-under division also has five opening-day games and will feature 11 players. The girls’ 10-and-under division has 10 players and will have two matches on Day 1.
Action in the girls’ 14-and-under and the boys’ and girls’ 18-and-under will start tomorrow.
The boys’ 18-and-under division has seven players with former 14-and-under players Nathan Nutting and Rafael Jones moving up to the higher age group. Joining them are Andy Nutting, Sung Hoon Ham, Woo Suk Chang, George Race, and R.J. Aquino.
The girls’ 18-and-under draw also has several 14-and-under players in sisters Theecel and Thea Minor and Melody Johnson. Completing the list are Jodel Fernandez, Dina Jones, Paila Race, and Lila Mailman.
Ten-year-old Neghar Rastguiy is entered in the girls’ 14-and-under singles. Also in the draw are Mikayla Lopez, Alina Ishikawa, Ilia Corella, Amy Arenovski, and Jean Bracken.
