CUC sets 3-hour power outage Saturday
The Commonwealth Utilities Corp. has scheduled a power interruption affecting two feeders this Saturday, June 11, 2011, from 5am through 8am.
The purpose of the power interruption is to provide safety to the line crew as they perform maintenance on the electrical grid. The power interruption will affect both Feeder 2 second partial and Feeder 3 second partial as the line crew installs an air break switch on the primary lines on Quarter Master Road in Chalan Laulau.
The air break switch is an isolation switch that provides the line crew the ability to isolate specific areas of the electrical grid when needed and the option to back feed the electrical current from another feeder to energize non-problematic areas. This ability will assist the crews in minimizing any inconvenience to its consumers and the public when performing future maintenance and repairs to the electrical system. CUC will be installing eight other ABSs throughout the island over the next few weeks.
In addition, other crews will be replacing a deteriorated power pole on Chalan Pale Arnold Road, Feeder 3 second partial, while others will clear primary lines on Beach Road, Feeder 2 second partial, of vegetation.
Areas to be affected include:
* Feeder 2 (second partial): Fishing Base, Garapan south on Beach Road to the Beach Road/Chalan Monsignor Guerrero Road Intersection
* Feeder 3 (second partial): Upper Chinatown, As Falape, Gualo Rai Traffic Light on Chalan Pale Arnold Road south to Hertz Car Rental to include Quarter Master Road.
“CUC apologizes for any inconvenience this scheduled power interruption may impose on the community and its consumers and will continue to work diligently to minimize future interruptions,” a CUC news release states. (CUC)
