Public library to offer computer learning program
Improve your computer skills this summer as Joeten-Kiyu Public Library brings to you its 2011 ITC Technology Summer Program.
Information Technology Center coordinator Roy D. Rechebei said the summer program involves three computer workshops underwritten by JKPL and the Institute of Museum and Library Services through the Library and State Technology Act’s five-year grant.
Workshop 1 is the Office Suite Applications: Purpose and Proper Use, which will allow the participants to better understand the uses of Word Processing, Spreadsheet or Excel, and PowerPoint.
“This workshop is designed for users to also better their skills on the computer in an efficient manner,” said Rechebei, adding that the workshop will detail each program in three-day sessions.
Workshop 2 is Integrating Files Within the Suite Applications, which will discuss how files between programs interact, the manner in which the files are used, and it will identify certain key problems that users encounter when moving files or combining specific parts of a file to another part.
“The workshop will simulate a mock office, and in how the files are used, shared, and potentially distributed,” Rechebei said.
Workshop 3 is the File Management and Alternatives of Software, which involves the practice of knowing how and where to save the files and ensure that they are effectively organized and retrievable.
“This workshop will introduce different modes of practices in the office environment, and will discuss the methods in which files are handled on a server or hard drive,” he explained.
Workshop 1 will run from June 29 to July 15. Workshop 2 is from July 20 to Aug. 5. Workshop 3 will run from Aug. 10 to Aug. 26. All workshop sessions are scheduled on Wednesdays to Fridays and the proposed fee is $30 for each workshop per person.
Participants will be limited to just 10 per workshop. Registration starts today and will close on June 17.
Rechebei said interested library patrons should have library cards and must have at least some knowledge in basic computing, keyboarding, and mouse skills to participate in the workshops.
