Acting governor Eloy S. Inos signed into local law on Wednesday a measure appropriating $8,000 for Tinian’s medical referral patients, and for the subsistence allowance of other patients from the island.

The $8,000 comes from poker and pachinko license fees collected.

Half of this money will go toward medical referral patients. The other $4,000 will be for the monthly subsistence allowance of patients on dialysis and those with cancer and other debilitating diseases.

Rep. Trenton Conner (R-Tinian), author of the local bill, said in a phone interview that he’s thankful for the acting governor’s prompt action on the measure and for “understanding the needs of the indigent medical referral patients.”
