Angels pummel Brewers, even finals
The St. Michael’s Angels let their bats do the talking in Game 2 of the Saipan Major League championship series after beating Tan Holdings Brewers, 13-4, Wednesday night at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Ballfield.
The statement win evened up the best-of-five finals series at 1-1. The series continues with Game 3 tonight beginning 6:30pm at Tan Ko Field.
Angels took an early 2-0 lead in the opening frame off two hits and a pair of errors. Brewers went 1-2-3 in the bottom half.
The Angels then shot ahead, 8-1, in the second inning off a couple of errors, RBI singles by Jesus Iguel and Dave Camacho, and a two-RBI base smash by Benwachi Taisacan.
Brewers managed only one run in the bottom frame from a sacrifice fly by Asap Wabol.
Brewers held the Angles in the third and were awarded another run in the bottom frame off a balk, but left the bases loaded.
Angels got the run back in the top of the fourth off an RBI base rip by Pete Tomokane and stuffed the Brewers 1-2-3 in the bottom frame.
Angels then pulled ahead, 11-2, in the fifth off errors and another RBI single by Iguel; Brewers stranded a man at second in the bottom frame.
Angels pressed on in the sixth and added two more runs off four hits; Pat Alepuyo busted a two-RBI single.
Brewers managed a run in the bottom half as Mike Pangelinan led off with a triple and was driven home by Vince Cepeda.
The Angels sat on their lead from there and contained the Brewers to just one run in their final stand.
Winning pitcher Thomas Joab went the distance and gave up just two earned runs off five hits and three walks with three strikeouts.
Angles’ Iguel batted 3-for-6 with two RBIs, three runs, and three stolen bases.
The Angels pounded 21 hits as a team in the second matchup. Nine of their 11 batters bagged at least one hit, eight of which made it around to score.
