The Department of Public Safety in collaboration with the FBI, continues to monitor “classified leads” in the mysterious disappearance of sisters Faloma and Maleina Luhk.

Press secretary Angel Demapan told Saipan Tribune yesterday that details and specifics of these leads cannot be disclosed at this time as investigations are still active and ongoing.

“Nonetheless, the Fitial administration remains grateful for the investigative efforts of the hardworking personnel at DPS and the FBI even as efforts have been adjusted to keep expenses within the resources readily available,” Demapan said.

He said the Fitial administration is aware that a great deal of resources have been spent on the search for 10-year-old Faloma and 9-year-old Maleina since they went missing on May 25 but he assured the family and the public that authorities will continue the investigation to ensure that “there are no stones left unturned.”

“Undoubtedly, several weeks have passed since the search operations commenced [but] all hope is not lost at this point. As law enforcement authorities continue to search for much needed answers, we continue to ask the public for their patience and cooperation,” Demapan said.

While some time has passed, Demapan said they do not construe the situation as a “failure” or a “frustration.”

“Until such time that a decision is handed down reflecting that all options have been exhausted, the ongoing operation remains a work in progress,” he said.

Despite the $50,000 cash reward for information on the Luhk sisters, tips and leads have dried up, according to the FBI.
