Garrison promises to unleash ‘hailstorm of info’
Marianas High School principal Craig Garrison will be attending a meeting with members of House Committee on Education to defend himself against several issues being raised against him.
He confirmed receiving the panel’s invitation and assured that he will provide rebuttal to all the allegations that were raised against his leadership.
“I got the letter [today] and it is likely I will attend this one as I have now seen the testimony and will offer my rebuttal, but more than that I will be unleashing a hailstorm of information about every employee I can without regard to privacy as they seem to see fit to have done themselves,” Garrison to Saipan Tribune yesterday. He did not elaborate.
Garrison, along with Board of Education members and Education Commissioner Rita Sablan, was invited to the meeting on July 6 after they snubbed a public hearing that had intended to tackle the same issue.
Eight individuals, mostly MHS teachers, testified against Garrison at the first public hearing on Capital Hill. They asked lawmakers to intervene and oust Garrison, whom they described as arrogant and disrespectful to teachers and students.
Garrison earlier described the efforts of lawmakers as micromanagement. This was denied by committee chair Rep. Raymond Palacios (Cov.-Saipan).
“I don’t understand their insistence on this other than to say that they appear to be attempting to seek answers to questions that any reasonable person would already have the answers to. I would also add that I was always taught that if one wanted to know the truth about something, then one should go to the source. However, no one has ever stopped by to see me, unfortunate really,” Garrison said.
BOE chair Marylou Ada said yesterday that she has yet to receive any letter or invitation to appear before the House education panel.
MHS teacher James Yangetmai led a four-day protest against Garrison in April.
