A joint investigation by the FBI and the Department of Public Safety led to the arrest on Tuesday of a staff of the Division of Youth Services who allegedly sexually abused a female minor.

Pedro Ilo Sablan, 62, was brought to the Superior Court yesterday afternoon for an initial appearance. Associate Judge Kenneth L. Govendo imposed a $50,000 cash bail for his temporary release.

Preliminary hearing will be on Aug. 18.

Govendo ordered the suspect to stay away from all juvenile children, except for family members.

Chief Prosecutor Michael Ernest called to the witness stand detective Melissa Bauleong, who briefly explained to the court how the joint FBI and DPS investigation led to Sablan’s arrest.

Bauleong said it was an FBI special agent who contacted DPS about the case involving a 14-year-old girl.

Ernest said Sablan was arrested for several counts of sexual abuse of a minor in the first and second degree.

Govendo found probable cause to continue the detention of Sablan for sexual abuse of a minor in the first and second degree.
