Butch fundraiser II Sunday
The Butch Journey to XTERRA World Championship Fundraiser II will take place tomorrow at Paupau Beach.
The fundraising event will feature bike and run races in various divisions. Entrance fee is only $10. Registration will start at 6am and all races will begin at 7:15am.
In kind prizes will be given to winners of different races, while a brand new mountain bike will be raffled off after the event. You don’t need to be present to win the bike.
The bike race will have the road and MTB divisions. The road bike category will have bikers leaving Paupau and heading to Suicide Cliff, Bird Island, Grotto, and Banzai Cliff and returning to the starting line.
The MTB race has three categories. For beginners, riders will begin at Paupau Beach and head to the dumping site road, Cowtown, and Banzai Cliff before returning to the starting line for the finish. For MTB sports riders, they will also start at Paupau, but bikers will proceed to Suicide Cliff, Kimikaze trail, turn left to Grotto, Santa Clause trail, dumping site, and past the Last Command Post before going back to Paupau. In the MTB open division, bikers will also go to the Suicide Cliff and Kimikaze trail after leaving Paupau, but instead of turning left to Grotto, they will head to Bird Islands, Calabera and Radar roads up to the one million gallon tank, turn left to Marianas Country Club road, and turn left to the main road going back to the starting line.
For the run race, there will be two categories, the 5K and 8K. The shorter course will begin at Paupau and runners will head to the baseball field and back to Paupau. For the 8K run, participants must go to as far as the Last Command Post and return to Paupau.
Funds that will be raised in the weekend competition will be used to help send Butch Sublemente to Hawaii in October for the 2011 XTERRA World Championship. He qualified for XTERRA World after topping his age group (35 to 39) in the 2011 XTERRA Saipan Championship.
