In light of the recent—and past—incidents made by local mixed martial arts practitioners, Trench Tech Purebred is currently in the process of formulating a code of conduct policy for its members.

Trench Tech president Cuki Alvarez said he is personally disheartened with the recent arrests of now suspended Trench Tech fighter Giovanni “Palaxi” Sablan and inactive Trench Tech fighter Primo Ogartom.

“I’m deeply disappointed because I’ve been trying, and continue to try, to keep MMA’s name clean, but I can’t baby sit everyone, 24-7. I can only keep reminding them to do the right things. They live their own lives and I can only do so much for them.”

Of Sablan, Alvarez added, “He is suspended indefinitely until we figure out what results from the incident. He has not been convicted nor sentenced at this time, but I assure you that we do not condone these types of behaviors and are developing a conduct policy for all of our fighters that will be enacted immediately upon its establishment.”

Sablan was arrested for allegedly assaulting his ex-girlfriend last Saturday in the parking lot at Aquarius Beach Tower Hotel in Chalan Kanoa.

Ogarto was arrested early yesterday morning for allegedly stealing copper wire along the Beach Road pathway. Alvarez was not available for comment on Ogarto specifically as of press time.

Both Sablan and Ogarto’s bail was set at $10,000 cash.

“My stance is simple, if you break the law, then you pay, and we are coming up with a system that will punish our fighters for their poor decisions,” said Alvarez in a phone interview yesterday.

A five-year veteran with a 15-8 win-loss record, Sablan built a promising reputation early in his MMA career. He, however, has fallen off a little in recent outings, suffering four losses in his last six bouts dating from September 2009.

Alvarez also shared that Sablan’s training regiment diminished during the decline.

“Well all in all, this may end up being a good thing for [Sablan]. Now he can take some time to reflect on his poor decisions and overcome them. This is obviously a low point for him, but he is still a young adult who can evolve and grow from it,” said Alvarez.
