CNMI athletes off to Pacific Games
It was a send-off week for CNMI athletes competing in the 2011 Pacific Games in New Caledonia.
First to leave Saipan for the quadrennial event was the CNMI Baseball Team composed of Joshua Jones, Juan Maratita, Eric Tenorio, Ian Rogolifoi, Keoni Lizama, Mike Iguel, Vince Cepeda, Elton Santos, Jesus Iguel, Tyrone Omar, Franco Flores, Thomas Joab, Jerome Delos Santos, Byron Kaipat, Manny Sablan, and Craig Sanchez. Manager Tony Rogoligoi and Saipan Major League Baseball’s Rose Igitol joined the group.
Beach volleyball’s Tyce Mister and Chris Nelson left next, followed by NMASA president Michael White. The four-player CNMI Golf Team was next, boarding a flight to New Caledonia early Saturday morning to make it in time for the opening ceremonies late afternoon.
Trevor Ogumoro, Rachel Abrams, and Douglas Dillay of athletics missed the opening rites as they left Saipan only last night.
Meanwhile, on-going competitions on Saipan continued last week.
In basketball, the UFO Bud Cup caging had its regular season games at the TSL Sports Complex with UPAA/Docomo Hoopaholics and Namfrel Marianas Health Services/Proa repulsing separate foes. In the UFO Docomo Cup, MDX/Armatech and VisMinda/PIAHI won in the masters division games.
Still in basketball at the TSL Sports Complex, the Rotary youth caging played its Week 2 matches with Rollers 2 and Hi-5 posting separates victories.
The 2011 Saipan Soccer School Futsal League continued with its second-round games also at the TSL Sports Complex last week. Kulet’s Team posted the biggest win last week, stunning Shirley’s B in the women’s division. Shirley’s A and Wild Bill’s also notches win to remain on top of the women’s and men’s fields, respectively.
At the Kan Pacific Swimming Pool in Marpi, Tsunami Saipan’s Kensuke Kimura and Angel Marie Tan ruled the 2011 Hong Kong-Saipan Goodwill Meet, besting their teammates, Saipan Swim Club swimmers, and the visiting Hong Kong Sword Fish Swim Club bets.
