Over 1K students register for NMC Spring 2012 semester
Over a thousand students have registered at Northern Marianas College for the Spring 2012 semester, which classes officially started yesterday.
The college opened its registration period last week and records show that on the last day of enrollment, Jan. 13, there were a total of 1,074 students who had enrolled for classes in various programs and courses. The figure is a slight increase from what was recorded on the same period in Spring 2011 semester with 1,061 students.
In a statement to Saipan Tribune yesterday, NMC indicated that enrollment may continue to increase as late registration is ongoing until Friday this week. Final number of enrollees will be determined after Jan. 20 upon the close of late enrollment. Breakdown of enrollees per program is currently not available, according to the college.
NMC announced yesterday that it is not too late for students who still wish to enroll in the Spring 2012 semester. It added that additional English and math placement tests have been also scheduled this week. For more details about these schedules, NMC encourages the public to visit its website: www.nmcnet.educ.
According to NMC, there were more than 400 students who registered on the first day of weeklong registration period. Then acting president Leo Pangelinan, also the dean of the student services, earlier told Saipan Tribune that registration went smoothly and lauded the collaborative efforts of the college offices, volunteers, and students.
NMC is currently addressing its probation status with the Accrediting Commission for Community Junior Colleges.
Saipan Tribune learned that NMC president Sharon Y. Hart recently returned from the commission assembly where she, along with Board of Regents chair Juan Lizama, gave testimonials to the commission. A decision on NMC’s accreditation is expected next month.
