DPS: Bones found in Kagman belonged to Quitugua
The Department of Public Safety has confirmed that the human bones found in Kagman III last August were that of 71-year-old Ricardo Muna Quitugua and that he died of natural causes.
DPS Commissioner Ramon Mafnas told reporters yesterday that Guam chief medical examiner Aurelio Espinola who conducted the autopsy made these findings.
Mafnas said they sent a piece of the remains to the FBI’s Laboratory in Virginia for DNA testing. He said the DNA testing is pending.
However, Mafnas said, Dr. Espinola made a determination so they informed the Office of the Attorney General about the findings.
The OAG wrote a letter on Feb. 6 to the Commonwealth Health Center, giving the family’s permission to bury the remains.
The bones were discovered on Aug. 14, 2011, after a dog looking for a bone to chew on dragged a leg bone to somebody’s house.
Investigators later determined that the bones belonged to an old man. Family members strongly believed that the remains belong to Quitugua, who lived in a shack in the area.
