The 31st Annual Flame Tree Arts Festival hosted by the Commonwealth Council for Arts and Culture will kick off with a soft opening tonight at 6pm at the Civic Center Park in Susupe.

It is the biggest annual festival celebrating the rich art and cultural heritage of the Commonwealth and is free to the public.

The three-day festival will have its official opening ceremony tomorrow, April 21, at 10am. The ceremony will serve as “an opportunity to welcome island leaders, off-island guests, and the general public who will join in the festivities,” according to Arts Council executive director Angel S. Hocog.

Hocog noted that the opening ceremony will also serve as a venue for the announcement of winners for the 3rd Annual CNMI Art Competition sponsored by Bridge Capital LLC, a “Pacifica” or major sponsor of the festival.

“Everything is set for the festival and we’re very excited to celebrate the CNMI’s rich art and cultural heritage,” said Hocog. “We have lined up an exciting program that the public can enjoy.”

The annual festival will feature 56 booths of local and visiting artists, showcasing a wide selection of artwork using different mediums and offering varied price ranges to suit anyone’s taste and budget.

A total of seven food vendors will also set up booths at the event to offer all kinds of festival food for spectators.

Hocog also encouraged community members to purchase raffle tickets for a chance to win great prizes, including the grand prize of round trip tickets to the U.S. mainland from another major sponsor, Delta Air Lines. Tickets will be available at the festival committee booth during the event for $1 each.

“On behalf of the festival committee, we invite everybody to join us in the 31st Annual Flame Tree Arts Festival. Let’s all ‘Be A Part’ of the efforts to promote, preserve, and perpetuate our island heritage,” said Hocog.
