Boating Safety responds to distressed vessel

On Sunday, May 15, 2022, at around 2:42pm, DPS Boating Safety Section received a call reporting a distress vessel west off Micro beach.
At around 2:59pm, Zodiac 3 departed from the Smiling Cove Marina and headed toward the distressed vessel. At 4:03pm, Zodiac 3 arrived at the vessel, established tow, and headed back toward Smiling Cove. All occupants of the vessel stated they were okay and did not need medical attention. At around 5:30pm, Zodiac 3 arrived at Smiling Cove with the distress vessel. The vessel was boarded upon rescue and received a no-violation citation.
According to the crew of the vessel they launched their vessel at fishing base around 8pm and headed to the west of Saipan and started to fish going from the north down toward the south. Around 2:40pm, they were trolling, heading south just west of Micro Beach when the engine died. The operator stated that he does not know why the engine died. He then called DPS Boating Safety for police assistance. (PR)
