Brilliant Star Montessori School is inviting the community to join the 7th Marianas Wings Kite Festival this Sunday, April 19, from 10am to 5pm, at the Navy Hill Ballpark. Admission is free.

“There will be baked goods, drinks, kites, games, and, of course, kite contests. New this year is the decorated kite category. We have blank kites for sale that come with all the necessary supplies to decorate them. Prizes are available for the most beautifully decorated kite in per age category,” said Brilliant Star principal Richard Sikkel.

The kite contest will start at 12:30pm. All competitors must check in at the Kite Contest Booth by 12pm and are advised to arrive and register or check in early to test their kites before the competitions start. After the kite contest, there will be an award ceremony.

Kite contest categories include creatively decorated kite, a new category called bamboo kite, and the highest-flying kite.

Under the creatively decorated kite category, there are contests for ages 6 and under, 9 and under, and all ages.

“In the bamboo kite category we will be looking for a kite frame constructed out of bamboo; the rest of the kite can consist of any other material,” Sikkel said.

Cash prizes of $50 each are available for winners under the bamboo category for the most beautiful bamboo kite, the largest bamboo kite, and the highest-flying bamboo kite.

Sikkel said all kites must fly.

Registration for the kite contest is $5 per kite per category. All kite registration and payment must be received at the kite contest booth no later than 12pm on April 19.

Registration forms can be picked up at the school, downloaded from their website at www.brilliantstarmontessori.org, or register during the event no later than 12pm.

Early registration is acceptable. To register, contact 323-7828 or email Sikkel at principal@brilliantstar.org.
