The Hotel Association of the Northern Mariana Islands reported 80.84 percent occupancy among 11 member hotels for November 2013, a 6-percent increase compared to November 2012.

A total of 56,071 of 69,360 available room nights sold in November 2013, compared to 53,703 of 72,060 of available room nights sold over the same period last year. Room rates were $105.90 during the month, compared to $93.15 last November.

“We’re pleased with this year’s performance, and we’re looking forward to a strong winter season,” said HANMI chair Nick Nishikawa. “We are also pleased with how this year’s increase in hotel occupancy tax is being promptly applied to more promotions and destination enhancement projects, as the government promised. Our members have struggled, along with the community, for many years, so it is nice to finally be turning the corner and reaping the benefits of our partnership and commitment.”

So far this calendar year, hotel occupancy is at an average 82.69 percent, 10 percent higher than last year. The number is slightly over a healthy industry indicator average of 80 percent occupancy.
