GUAM (Pacific News Center)—Guam’s waters claimed the lives of two men in a Christmas Day tragedy off the Jonestown cliffline.

Guam Fire spokesman Lt. Ed Artero said the body of a 37-year-old man was recovered by divers about 5:30pm Wednesday. A second 40-year-old man who was pulled alive from the water was later pronounced dead at Naval Hospital, said GMH Nursing Supervisor Cely Mangrobang.

Artero said the 911 call came in just before 4pm. GPD’s Harbor Unit and the Coast Guard joined in the rescue and subsequent recovery effort.

In addition to the two Christmas Day deaths, Mangrobang said a 67-year-old Japanese tourist died Tuesday. He had been in critical condition since Friday when he was pulled from Tumon Bay.

There have been four water related deaths in less than a week, including the 50-year-old man who died after a large wave flipped his boat over outside the Hagatna Boat Basin last Friday. Two others in the boat were rescued by a parasailor.
