APRA HARBOR, Guam—U.S. Coast Guard Station Apra Harbor is now a 24-hour-7-days-a-week Search and Rescue response unit.

Station Apra Harbor has a newly renovated berthing and a mess deck allowing crewmembers to remain overnight at the unit and respond immediately to calls of distress or requests for assistance.

Since its establishment in September 2008, Station Apra Harbor has strived to improve its operating capability to support the communities of Guam and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. Within the last two years, Station Apra Harbor received two new 45-foot response boats. The arrival of these boats expanded the unit’s response capability out to 50 nautical miles off shore. Additionally, the vessels and crew are able to operate in seas up to 12 feet and 50 knot winds.

Station Apra Harbor, as part of Naval Base Guam’s renovation of Sumay Cove, received new docks situated in the entrance of Sumay Cove enabling quicker response times. (USCG)
