[B]Survivors, caregivers support meeting on Thurs.[/B]

All people facing cancer, their family members, and caregivers are invited to the next Commonwealth Cancer Association monthly support meeting on Thursday, Jan, 23, 2014, starting at 5:30pm at the Hyatt Regency Saipan’s Chamolinian Room. Guest speaker will be Dr. Jeanolivia Grant, MD, MPH, Chief OB/GYN Department Title X Family Planning Program, Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. [B]Forum on language access closed for registration[/B]

The newly formed coalition Culture and Language Access Service Partners will be hosting a public forum on “Access to Language Equality” on Jan. 21, 2014, at the Somnak Ballroom of Westin Resort Guam. As of today, registration for participants is closed at about 240 pre-registered attendees. No on-site registration will be accepted. [B]Air Force, Navy training on FDM, Warning Area 517[/B]

SANTA RITA, Guam—The Navy and Air Force will conduct training on the island of Farallon de Medinilla during the following times:

– Jan. 22 from 12:45pm to 3:45pm and 9pm to 11:55pm

– Jan. 23 from 4:30pm to 8:30pm

– Jan. 24 from 12:45pm to 3:45pm and 9pm to 11:55pm

The Air Force also conduct training at Warning Area 517 on Jan. 24, from 1pm to 6pm

The general public—especially fishermen, commercial pilots, and marine tour operators—are advised to stay clear from the area during the times and dates indicated.

The general location of the training on the island of Farallon de Medinilla training area will be on a 10 nautical mile radius on all quadrants.

W-517 is an irregular shaped polygon comprising of 14,000 nautical square miles of airspace that begins south of Guam and extends south-southwest in international waters. This will affect fishing in the vicinity of Santa Rosa Reef and Galvez Bank. (PR)

[B]Guam senator lauds Torres’ appointment to Guam High Court[/B]

GUAM—Guam Sen. Frank Aguon Jr., releases the following statement on the recent selection of Justice Robert Torres, to serve as the Chief Justice for Guam: “I congratulate and commend Chief Justice Torres for being recognized amongst his peers to serve in this top leadership position,” said Aguon. “Chief Justice Torres has the experience and tenacity needed to continue moving our Judiciary, in a positive direction toward progress. As Oversight Chair on the Committee of the Judiciary of Guam, I look forward to working with him on various initiatives and efforts such as the possibility of establishing future court satellites on Guam that will help improve service and justice for our island community.” (PR)

[B]Notice to CUC customers[/B]

As previously announced, CUC is currently experiencing a technical problem with its prepaid machine. The problem is expected to be fully resolved by Jan. 24. Until that time, prepaid tokens can be issued, but only in $50 amounts. For those who cannot afford a $50 token, special accommodations will be made.
