The Hotel Association of the Northern Mariana Islands reported an 86.20-percent occupancy among 11 member hotels for December 2013, a 2-percent increase compared to December 2012.

Room rates were $130.80 during the month, compared to $113.20 last December.

“Our HANMI members have been very happy to partner with the local government, tourism partners, and the community to revive tourism and improve the lives of the people,” said HANMI chair Nick Nishikawa. “Through providing jobs, generating tax revenue, and undertaking charitable projects, we have demonstrated our commitment. We believe 2014 will be another auspicious year for us all, and we look forward to strengthening those partnerships.”

In calendar year 2013, hotel occupancy averaged 82.98 percent, compared to 73.06 percent in 2012. The number is slightly over a healthy industry indicator average of 80-percent occupancy.

The Hotel Association of the Northern Mariana Islands was established in 1985 as a professional forum for the hospitality industry of the NMI.
