Camacho: 100% compliance among parolees
The CNMI Board of Parole has had 100% compliance among its over 20 parolees in the last few years, according to board chair Ramon “RB” Camacho.
He said that despite the uneven ratio of parolees to parole officers, they have not had much trouble with the convicts under their care.
“We have had a 100% compliance rate. We haven’t had any complaints so far. These people have faced the consequences so they are cautious [and don’t want] to repeat those same mistakes,” he said.
Currently, there are 35 convicts who have been granted parole, 22 of whom are employed. There are also only two parole officers who look after all 35 parolees.
Camacho would like to thank the business community for giving these parolees a chance by accepting them into the workforce because these individuals have gone through the system and are trying to turn their lives around.
“The parolees went through the whole nine yards of criminal justice process, from arrest, to detention, to court, and down to the prison. …So I’m encouraging other members of the business community to give these people a chance and employ them. They are human beings too,” Camacho said.
