The OWHE Conference committee selects one student from the state to be part of the Wise Women panel during the conference. Cabrera said it was an honor and privilege to be that student.

“It was inspiring to be part of such a great pool of successful, motivated and intelligent women. My experience at the conference has encouraged me to continue my work with students and has exposed me to the many different career paths that I will be embarking on. I met so many other women who are role models and mentors and it was awesome being able to meet and network with them. The opportunity to speak on behalf of other students, especially women, was a blessing,” she told Saipan Tribune in an email yesterday.

Cabrera joined other top professional on the panel, including deans and professors from Pacific University, University of Oregon, and the New York Institute of Technology.

This year’s theme was “Navigate Your Adventure.” Attendees networked with colleagues from around the state, reflected upon their own professional and personal adventures, and attended sessions on personal and professional wellbeing, career development, “best practices,” and “leading in an era of change.”

Cabrera is a graduate student in the Post-Secondary Adult & Continuing Education Program at Portland State University. She graduated summa cum laude from PSU, with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Social Science.

She is the daughter of John and Betty Ann Palacios Cabrera, and attended both Garapan and Kagman elementary schools and finished high school at Kagman High School in 2008, graduating as her batch’s valedictorian and recipient of the Community Service Award.
