CNMI undefeated in ASPAC

The CNMI Junior All-Stars got off to a strong start in the 2012 Asia Pacific Regional Tournament after sweeping their two games over the weekend in Vietnam.

The Commonwealth youth sluggers debuted in this year’s ASPAC with a 9-2 victory over Hong Kong last Saturday and then crushed the host, 21-0, last Sunday. The team is composed of Jonathan Camacho, Jerald Cabrera, K.J. Deleon Guerrero, Terson Eina, Darion Jones, Michael Muna, Nathan Camacho, Jhace Palacios, Virolanson Secharmidal, Roke Tenorio, Kainao Wanket, and Kenji Yamagata. Bernard Cabrera manages the squad.

The CNMI Junior All-Stars’ third game was against the Philippines with the match set for 7pm last night (4pm Saipan time) and results were unavailable at press time. The Commonwealth bets’ last two games will be against defending champion Chinese-Taipei today and versus Indonesia tomorrow.

The Top 4 teams after the round of pool play will advance to Thursday’s semifinals, while the championship and consolation matches will be played this Friday. Games in the Junior League of the ASPAC are being played in Nha Trang City in the Khanh Hoa Province.

Meanwhile, the CNMI Major All-Stars played their first game against Guam yesterday, however details of that match were unavailable. They are competing in Taichung, Taipei and games will run through Sunday.

Also yesterday, the CNMI Senior and Big League All-Stars left for Guam to compete in the ASPAC tournament that will be held at the Paseo Stadium from July 4 to 9.
