On May 21, U.S. Coast Guard cutter Washington and personnel from Coast Guard cutter Sequoia deployed to Rota after the passing of Typhoon Dolphin, in support of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.

The focus of the deployment was to deliver critical Aids to Navigation, or ATON, and Red Cross supplies to the affected island. Cutter Washington delivered about 400 lbs of FEMA/Red Cross Disaster Response Kits and canopy covers to Rota’s Department of Public Safety while replacing and repairing vital ATON components, such as preferred channel markers and day boards. The prompt response from the cutters’ personnel and their professionalism ensured the Rota Port’s fast recovery and its return to 24-hour operations. (USCG)
I noticed that they did not bring the “cutter” into the West harbor. They used the inflatable to transfer the supplies.
Good job USCG.
NOW where will all of the FEMA supplies end up. As with Tinian past, will it all go to the Mayor’ office?
Will ‘canopy covers’ (and other things) end up in certain politically connected and DPS personnel yards for the kids to play in? Hope not!
