A storeowner and his wife were injured when a masked man armed with a machete and a gun that is believed to be a toy robbed the 7 Star Market along Dandan Road on Friday night.

The storeowner suffered a cut on the left side of his cheek and the two fingers on his left arm. His wife was also hurt in the arm and back. The two were taken to the hospital for treatment.

The Department of Public Safety has yet to release information about the robbery.

The storeowner, who agreed to speak on the condition that he not be identified, believes the suspect was also hurt because he (storeowner) grabbed a knife and threw a chair and other things at him (suspect) during their struggle.

The suspect fled with an undetermined amount of cash aboard a getaway car and drove toward the airport area.

The suspect, who was wearing possibly a ski mask, entered the store between 9:20pm and 9:30pm, just as the storeowner’s wife was taking out some beer as they were about to close at that time.

The storeowner said the suspect probably believed that his wife was alone. The storeowner had just arrived about 15 minutes earlier and was in the back of the store.

He said he overheard his wife telling the suspect twice that she does not have any money.

The storeowner came out from the back and saw the robber.

“He pointed a gun at me. I told him to shoot me. I was just waiting for the gun to pop,” he said, adding that he immediately grabbed a knife as he and his wife then fought with the robber.

The victim said he believes that the suspect used a toy gun.

He said the store has a surveillance camera, but the suspect yanked the cash register, snapping the camera’s cord. The storeowner is still checking if the camera caught the incident.

The suspect, who managed to grab some cash, ran to his car that he had parked outside and fled. The neighbors called the police.

It was the first time that the store was robbed.

Last Feb. 20, a masked man sprayed a storeowner with pepper mace during an armed robbery at LZ Market, also located along Dandan Road.

The masked robber, who was carrying a handgun, ran off with $800 in cash and got into a getaway car driven by another person.

The store’s surveillance camera captured the robbery. No one was arrested in that incident.

Last October, a 44-year-old woman was injured when a group of masked persons beat her up, tied her arms behind her back, and taped her mouth hut during a robbery at her residence in Gualo Rai.

The suspects managed to take only a cell phone as they ran away when the victim’s roommate arrived at the house, police said. No one was arrested.
