Creditors committee wants paid for long distance, postal charges

The Hawaii-based counsel for the Official Committee of the Unsecured Creditors has demanded reimbursement of over $300 for the long-distance telephone charges and postal charges incurred by the committee’s chairman and members.

Attorney Don Jeffrey Gelber on Friday asked the U.S. District Court for the NMI Bankruptcy Division to order the NMI Retirement Fund to reimburse committee chair Mariano Taitano and members Barbara Torres, Roman T. Tudela, Juan B. Cepeda, and Paul Joyce.

Gelber said that following its formation, the committee held several meetings and some of those meetings were conducted by teleconferences with the committee’s counsel in Honolulu.

Gelber said that committee members incurred long-distance telephone charges and postal charges.

Gelber said that Taitano incurred postage and long-distance telephone charges in the amount of $169.46. He said the other members incurred long-distance charges-Torres, $50.76; Tudela, $35.08; Cepeda, $31.60; and Joyce, $50.

Last week, Gelber demanded $65,124.61 in compensation from the Fund for his and his law firm’s participation in the Fund’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy case.
