Dave Celis doesn’t only provide thrills as a staff of Skydive Saipan, but lately has been getting oohs and ahhs from the fans of motorsports at the Cowtown Race Track.

The 43-year-old Chalan Kanoa resident graduated from winning in the Veterans Class by topping the Expert Class in last month’s 2022 Monster Energy Point Series Race of the Marianas Racing Association.

Aboard his ever-reliable 2021 Yamaha YZ250F, Celis proved that he’s equally adept in the Expert Class by winning the division in the May race with 47 points. Ellery Cruz came second with 45 points, while Lenard “Champi” Villacanas wound up third with 38 points.

Celis said his strategy during last month’s race was just to race the way he always does—hard and smart.

“The track conditions were perfect and I just rode hard and smart and just had fun.”

Celis dedicated his first win in the Expert Class to his sponsors—Trench Tech Racing Team and Pacific Trading Co. and general manager Charles Cepeda—and of course his beloved family.

“I also want to thank race fans and MRA for another awesome race event,” he added.

He also thanked his good friend and training partner, Cuki Alvarez, and his sons for taking a vacation in the U.S. mainland to allow riders like him to take the pole position from time to time.

“It’s a nice break for us because the Man of Motocross—Cuki Alvarez—is on vacation. He can take the year off from motocross if he wants to,” joked Celis.

Aside from training regularly at the Marpi racetrack during the weekend, Celis also continues his running routine at the Gov. Froilan C. Tenorio Beach Road Pathway along Middle Road.

Being in tip-top shape and having a clear mind has resulted in Celis adding a monthly win in the Expert Class to his treasure trove of trophies in the Veterans Class.
