Two sports federations under the Northern Marianas Sports Association will be heading to Rota in the coming months to conduct several coaching and officials clinics. The project is in cooperation with the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs.

Mariana Islands Basketball Federation officer Elias Rangamar and Saipan Baseball League Inc. coordinator Tony Rogolifoi would conduct separate clinics.

DCCA officer Jack Sablan said they teamed up with NMSA to help interested individuals in the CNMI’s southernmost island get accreditation and certified as referees and umpires in each sport.

Rangamar will be coming to Rota, together with other MIBF officials, in September where they would also plan to hold the 3×3 preliminaries aside from conducting separate clinics for administrators, referees and table officials.

“We want every game in Rota to be sanctioned by MIBF so we decided to have this clinic in cooperation with DCCA,” said Rangamar, who will be on Rota from Sept. 21 to 24.

“While there, we’re also going to explain the rules of 3×3 basketball and train them about the game. This would coincide with the Rota 3×3 tournament.”

Rogolifoi, on the other hand, is looking at either late September or early October in making the trip to Rota. “I’m still checking on the dates, but for sure I would do certification courses on Rota.”

He said that the umpires course, sanctioned and given by the Baseball Confederation of Oceania, is for Level I accreditation. “They would take a different course if they wish to advance and get Level II accreditation.”

Rogolifoi would also hold separate baseball clinics to players and coaches, with the latter also getting certified under BCO’s standards.
