DeLeon Guerrero confident that Senate understands the separation of powers
Senate President Edith E. DeLeon Guerrero (D-Saipan) said yesterday she is confident that it’s not just the 23rd Senate leadership but the entire Senate body that understands the separation of powers among the three branches of government.
In her response to Saipan Tribune’s question if the Senate will automatically be agreeing with the Palacios-Apatang administration on all its initiatives, DeLeon Guerrero said there will be legislations that may not be compatible with the ideals of either the Executive or Legislative Branch.
However, the Senate president said, setting aside differences and having healthy and productive debates on legislations that will lead to mutually agreeable concessions will help them move forward in achieving the desired goals/initiatives for the CNMI and its people.
“We need to mature beyond reactive emotions and learn to work for the common good of our CNMI people,” DeLeon Guerrero said.
Some members of the 22nd House of Representatives had criticized the 22nd Senate before and called it a rubber stamp of then-Torres administration.
Currently, the Senate is composed of two Democrats, three independents, and four Republicans.
