First Hawaiian Bank’s promo to drum up interest for its United Airlines credit card named a winner last week, with Noeh R. Cruz bringing home 100,000 United Airlines miles and the only winner from Saipan.

The promo ran from May until June this year, with FHB giving away a total of two million United Mileage Plus as part of its “Two Million United Miles Sweepstakes.”

Cruz said that he submitted only one entry coupon. “I was surprised when they called to inform me that I was one of the winners of the sweepstakes. I did not know how many miles I won until they awarded me the check.”

That opportunity gave him and his wife a chance to go on a vacation in the Philippines to visit family and friends.

Cruz said that he has been an FHB United Mileage plus cardholder for many years and “I am very happy about this return of benefits.”

According to FHB senior vice-president/Guam and CNMI Region manager Ed Untalan, Cruz and thousands of other cardholders are beneficiaries of the new United Credit Card, which was introduced last May 1, 2019.

“This new United Credit Card was developed based on feedback from our customers who told us what was important to them. It is our hope that Mr. Cruz and all of our new cardholders continue to enjoy using this credit card for everyday gas and grocery purchases to accelerate their mileage earnings,” he said.

FHB vice chair Mitchell E. Nishimoto said the FHB Two Million United Miles Sweepstakes was in conjunction with their rebranding launch of the FHB United Card. “We launched back in May and the customers’ response was just fantastic. We organized focus groups to find out what clients specifically want out of the…card. As a result, we specifically tailored the points rewards structure specifically for what Guam and CNMI residents want out of a rewards card and so this card is specifically designed for the market and the response has been positive,” he said.

In addition to the accelerated miles earning benefit, cardholders can also enjoy new card features such as free first and second checked bags on United Airlines flights, two United Club passes yearly, no foreign transaction fees, complimentary upgrade eligibility for cardholders with Premier status on award tickets and no blackout dates when redeeming miles for travel.

Customers who applied before for the FHB United Mileage Plus Credit Card gets a bonus offer of 30,000 miles after spending $1,500 within the first three months of being a cardholder. For more information, visit https://www.fhb.com/en/united-credit-card/.
