Flood watch in effect on Saipan
Based on information received from the National Weather Service in Tiyan, Guam and compiled at the CNMI Homeland Security and Emergency Management, heavy rain is expected as Tropical Storm Phanfone passes close to Saipan today.
Bands of heavy showers and thunderstorms will impact Saipan today as Phanfone approaches and then moves northwest of the island.
Flash flood watch is in effect for Saipan through late Wednesday night. Rainfall amounts of 4 to 8 inches are expected.
A flash flood watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation. You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should flash flood warnings be issued.
Members of the public living in a low-lying or flood-prone areas are advised to be prepared for the possibility of flooding on your property over the next few days.
