Taylor Germance was named the regular season’s most valuable player after claiming three individual awards in the 2017 Belau Men’s Masters Softball League during yesterday’s ceremony following the championship match between top seed Peleliu and No. 2 Brotherhood.
Germance blasted the most home runs with 19 to edge out Momma Charu’s Jojo Attao, who ended up with 18. The Karui slugger then added the most runs scored (34) and the most RBIs (56) trophies under his belt.
Attao had some consolation after being declared the league’s batting champ with a .800 average for going 40-for-50—way ahead of closest pursuer Bill Camacho of Brotherhood (.673). Joe Lizama of Brotherhood was third with a .649.
Karui’s Darwin Masaharu (.625), Germance (.618), Peleliu’s Rush Kintaro (.611), Brotherhood’s Jack D. Diaz (.604), Payton Sakuma (.587), S.A. Masters’ Jude Dickinson (.575), and Steve Igisaiar (.571) completed the Top 10 batting leaders.
Lefty Shiro had the most doubles with 12, while Nizer Masayos made the most triples in the regular season with eight.
Joe Celis of the Papa Bears ruled the pitching department with a 5.41 ERA, followed by previous leader Leo Bobai of Momma Charu (5.75), Kinataro (6.46), John Cepeda of the S.A. Masters (7.19), and Ray Villagomez of Peleliu (7.44).
Diaz of Brotherhood finished sixth with 7.94, while Lucian George of Karui was seventh with 8.80 and was followed by Tom Camacho of Sufa at eighth with 9.15 and the 9.65 of Asahi’s Tosh Beltran. Igisaiar was 10th with 11.52. Iskawa was the strikeout king with 30, besting Bobai’s 29, and the 28 of Diaz.
In the team category, Peleliu was the pennant champ, while Team Asahi went home with the sportsmanship award, as the league recognized the latter for helping organizers in maintaining the field before and after the weekly matches.
