Hagu La’mun bounced back from their loss a week prior and managed to edge out Asahi, 7-3, in last Sunday’s men’s division game of the 2022 Budweiser Belau Amateur Softball Association League at the Dandan Softball Field.
With this win, Hagu La’mun is 4-3 in the standings, while Asahi is at 3-4.
It was a battle between pitchers as Asahi’s Dominic Hideo silenced their opponents’ bats early on in the first inning, after putting out three of four batters and striking out two. Asahi’s offense were shut down as well in the first three innings, after coming up with goose eggs against Hagu La’mun’s pitcher John Acosta.
When it seemed like no one was able to score yet during the pitching duel, in the second inning, Joe Celis of Hagu La’mun broke through and scored in a run for his only RBI of the game to put them up 1-0.
In the third inning, a two-run home run resounded from the bat of Asahi’s Darwin Masaharu, to bring the game 2-1, but it just wasn’t enough when in the fourth inning, Hagu La’mun’s pitcher, who is as handy with the bat as he is with the ball, retaliated with a home run to score in three runs and put them up 4-2.
After the burst of energy, silence reigned for two more innings as the bats quieted down in the fifth and sixth, with the seventh still anybody’s game.
Edgar Ito of the Asahi blasted a home run in the seventh to put them up 3-4, but it just wasn’t enough when the Hagu La’mun’s Richard Quitugua fired a home run and came up with three more runs to end the game, 7-3.
In the game Asahi’s Darwin Masaharu had three at-bats, with two hits, one home run, and two RBI’s. Teammate Edgar Ito had three at-bats, one home run, and one RBI. While in the defensive side, Asahi’s pitcher struck out four Hagu La’mun batters.
In the winning team’s lineup, Hagu La’mun pitcher Joe Celis blasted off three RBIs in three at-bats, with one home run, while Richard Quitugua brought in three RBIs and one home run as well.
