Heinz, Ray: Hope for change still strong despite defections
Independent gubernatorial candidates Heinz S. Hofschneider and Ray N. Yumul remain undaunted by the defection of opposition candidates to the incumbent Inos-Torres campaign. They say Democratic candidate Edward M. Deleon Guerrero and independent candidate Juan N. Babauta’s recent endorsements of the Inos-Torres campaign were expected but they believe this move will not adversely affect their independent campaign.
“We’re grateful and proud to be able to say that supporters of the former opposition candidates have in fact already joined the Heinz and Ray campaign,” said Hofschneider. “Hope for change is alive and well for this campaign and for our Commonwealth and for our people, and we have faith in the collective wisdom of our people.”
“We have been receiving heartwarming and positive responses from independent and Democratic supporters over the last several days,” said Yumul.
The Hofschneider-Yumul campaign said they remain committed to the proposition that the IT camp only offers temporary, band-aid solutions to the Commonwealth’s most pressing problems. They said the IT camp has carefully orchestrated the release of Best Sunshine public utility contributions to coincide with the general election and the runoff.
Heinz and Ray said that after two months, when the generous but limited Best Sunshine CUC “vouchers” are expended, the power costs will still be high, that the government coffers will be short and nothing will change until the next election.
The Hofschneider-Yumul campaign added that while the government retirees have received only part of their previously denied pension, even the Settlement Fund managers have stated publicly that future payments are dependent on the government, which has a long list of creditors, to vendors, to CUC and to private citizens, including those entitled to land compensation payments for the public takings of private lands, which have languished for years.
“Despite a carefully orchestrated election year, ‘distributions’ or ‘vouchers,’ the future of the NMIRF is still in question under another Inos administration,” said Hofschneider. “Our community is in desperate need of leaders who will abandon the piece-meal, crisis management approach that has been the problem-solving style of our Executive Branch for one decade—that’s 10 years.”
“This is a future worth fighting for, and we are confident that the people, in the privacy of the election booth, will see through the incumbent’s election year tricks and agree by voting for our gubernatorial ticket in the runoff election,” said Yumul.
