High school grads encouraged to attend Cash for College workshop
Northern Marianas College is asking parents of recent high school graduates to encourage their son or daughter to take advantage of the services offered at the Cash for College workshop on Saturday, June 17, 2017, at NMC’s Building A at the As Terlaje campus.
The workshop will also be held on Tinian on June 20, 2017, at the NMC Tinian campus from 10am to 2pm and on Rota on June 22, 2017, at the NMC Rota campus from 10am to 2pm.
The aim of the workshop is to assist students and their parents to maximize scholarship opportunities that are available for those seeking a college education at NMC or at other postsecondary institutions. Many students who have attended previous Cash for College workshops are now receiving thousands of dollars to advance their education.
The workshop is open to anyone in the community who would like assistance in finding money for college—whether they are recent high school graduates or not. The workshop will be an ongoing session, so participants can stop by anytime between 9am and 12pm.
Participants will be provided with personal, step-by-step assistance in completing college financial aid forms, focusing especially on forms for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, the Saipan Higher Education Financial Aid, and the CNMI Scholarship.
Staff members from the college’s Office of Admissions and Records will also be present to provide information and assistance with the NMC application process.
Although not required, It is recommended that workshop participants bring a valid form of identification (e.g., a valid U.S. passport, copy of valid application for a U.S. passport, birth certificate, or green card), an official transcript from high school (at least three official copies), copy of 2015 1040, copy of 2015 W-2 (if not filing), and proof of CNMI residency, including proof of continuing residency. Applicants for SHEFA should bring a valid U.S. passport or a voter registration card.
