High surf and small craft advisories

Share

Based on information received from the National Weather Service in Tiyan, Guam, and compiled at the CNMI Homeland Security and Emergency Management, strong winds behind a cold front near Japan have produced a swell that is moving across the local area. This north to northwest swell will be large enough to produce hazardous surf on north facing reefs until noon today.

A high surf advisory remains in effect until noon today. Hazardous surf of 7 to 9 feet will persist along north facing reefs through this morning. Surf is expected to fall below hazardous levels this afternoon.

A small craft advisory remains in effect until 6am Wednesday. East winds of 20 to 25 knots and combined seas of 10 to 12 feet will produce hazardous conditions for operators of small craft for the next several days.

The general public is being advised to avoid venturing near exposed reefs and beaches, especially those along north and west facing reefs, as rip currents are life threatening. (HSEM)
