Housing task force formed for homeless survivors
A “State Led Disaster Housing Task Force” is being created to address renting and housing concerns for survivors of Typhoon Soudelor.
An initial meeting was held Tuesday morning at 10:30am at the Joint Field Office on Capital Hill.
Led by administration officials, public agencies, Federal Emergency Management Agency officials, and key community stakeholders, the meeting sought to define the task force’s purpose and roles for its state and federal partners.
According to a copy of the meeting’s agenda, stakeholders were scheduled to discuss survivor needs, infrastructure improvement, needed repairs, and to readdress the possibility of utilizing the island’s public gym for a long-term recovery shelter.
Some of the aid the task force will promote is “rental help” provided by FEMA.
Under this assistance, FEMA can provide a two-months worth of rental assistance for survivors in need.
Today marks one month since Typhoon Soudelor hit Saipan, destroying a reported 2,600 homes on island when it hit on Aug. 2 and 3.
