JG Sablan, CNMI govt ask federal court to dismiss suit
Citing their settlement agreement, businessman John T. Sablan of JG Sablan Rock Quarry Inc. and the CNMI government have asked the federal court to dismiss Sablan’s lawsuit against the Department of Public Lands over a mining permit issue.
Attorney Michael W. Dotts, as counsel for plaintiffs Sablan and JG Sablan Rock Quarry Inc., and assistant attorney general Peter B. Prestley, as counsel for DPL and Itibus, filed on Monday a stipulated dismissal before the U.S. District Court for the NMI.
Dotts and Prestley told the court that having reached a settlement, they agree to the dismissal of the lawsuit, with all parties bearing their own attorneys fees and costs.
The lawyers submitted their settlement deal to the court for review.
Sablan and JG Sablan Rock Quarry reportedly reached a $4.8-million settlement deal with the CNMI government in connection with the company’s legal battle against DPL that began in 2006 when DPL terminated JG Sablan’s mining permit.
At a settlement hearing on June 24, Dotts disclosed that Sablan has agreed to pay $4,806,867. 12 to the CNMI government and the latter will issue a mining permit for Pagan Island.
With respect to the mining permit, the length of such permit will be for 20 years, with a $100,000 permit fee payable in 120 days from its execution.
Alll of the years this guy did nothing and never paid the Govt anything, this along with his other local activities on leased quarry on Saipan. (been documented many time in the news).
NOW a new lease is granted, ONLY because the US Military is interested in using Pagan.and Sablan thinks he can cash in.
As Sablan stated another time, in the paper, when he found out about the US Military proposal to Use Pagan. He stated “Now I will get paid for loss of revenue” to his quarry) even though his contract had already been canceled for many years.
The corruption here is so predictable, especially when dealing with certain people that keep getting appointed from one area to another after their failed attempt at something that they know nothing about then carry out these schemes.
I will watch this act closely, especially the agreed upon collection of payments.
